Golf Gods

They play well. Very well, and they relax, mostly. Drink and chat and joke, adult jokes. The golf-men of our community. I’ve seen the odd wood thrown in despair, but not often. Almost never.

Today William Jensen nearly got a birdie on the 7th. The ball just teasing him towards the end. Nearly in, but not. Came out again. “Bloody ball,” he said. “Bloody ball.” I spoke to him later, in the bar, and he’d forgotten the whole thing by then, wanting rather to talk about the football team: “What’s wrong with them?” he wanted to know.
