Stay Sharp Now

by The Editor

Mopping up and going home, and then mopping up again. No end to it. That was this weekend, and the last, and the one before that. Will it ever end? The dampness spreads as we speak, mold is growing everywhere. Fungi, asthma and slow madness. Like an ominous black cloud, but underground, spreading to houses, infecting them, eroding the soil. Even solid concrete is crumbling.

Some say it has to do with the hole, by the M10. Others say it must surely be something more than that. And the Post is starting to think along the same lines. Out of 5000 homes, 3500 had reported some kind of damage by Thursday evening. Something flowing in underneath us: soggy, sad and unpredictable.

As Editor of the Post I feel obliged to ask some rhetorical questions: Who runs this town? And where are they hiding now? Building an ark? With what? What are they thinking? Wellingtons are becoming the new fashion-statement at our offices. But they won’t carry in a flood. A flood? Is that where this is going? No-one knows and nobody wants to think that far. It’s nearing an all-out crisis. Stay tuned! And stay Sharp.
