Fine Show
Fine frames, a fine setting, and the art, not bad at all. Not bad at all. These are the heartwarming facts that describe the new show of local talent at Sara’s Café. And it’s almost too good to be true. Little did we know at the Post about such qualified activity going on in our community. But I guess that’s how they like it, those with an artistic bent, quietly creating beautiful gems in the safety of obscurity. I spoke with Louise (55) over a cup of coffee, about her work and about the role of the artist. Louise has been painting for the last 5 years, and has never shown before now. How does it feel? How does one do it? She looks at me intently and says with quiet certitude that it’s all about feeling. “You have to feel something, and then express it. Don’t think.”
She sure is passionate. And her art reflects that; the colours, the lines, the texture. Some might say too violent, but when asked Louise says it’s the only way she can do it. “I’m facing myself there, in front of that canvas. It’s hard, but it makes me feel alive.” But how does it feel, I want to know, now that everyone can see it and have an opinion? “Oh it’s good. They speak to me like strangers now, my own creations, and I’m not afraid anymore. I used to be, but not anymore. They belong to the world, you know.” Yes. We know Louise, and it makes us proud.
